Excessive TV-watching linked to parenting style

If your child watches too much TV then maybe, just maybe it’s linked to your parenting style.

A study just released from the University of Bristol found that kids who watched four hours or more each day were more likely to have permissive mothers. That is, mothers who didn’t exert their influence over their children or allowed their children to make up their own minds about TV-viewing.

Kids who watched two hours or less TV a day had parents who used an authoritarian or an authoritative parenting style. Both these styles are about parents influencing kids and not just letting them do as they wish.

I strongly promote the latter style which gives kids a voice without being too strict or being overbearing and described fully in my book Thriving. Here’s just one more study that makes a case for authoritative parenting!
