Teach kids not to need you

If you want to build resourcefulness and independence in kids, redundancy is your goal.

How do you do that?

Do less so your kids do more.

Here’s how: Let them watch you do something, then next time let them help you do it.

Then you help them do it and finally, just watch them do it.

Sometimes its easier to do things ourselves – but don’t.

Be clear about who owns each job or task in the family and don’t take on a child’s job.

And never be more worried about a child’s job than they are, otherwise it becomes your job again.

Oh, and don’t pay them.
